1. Introduction
Tarmac ("we", "our", or "us") is a social drive-tracking app for iOS. This Privacy
Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding
your data. By using Tarmac, you agree to the practices described here.
2. Information We Collect
Account information
- Name, username, and avatar photo you provide during onboarding.
- Sign in with Apple identifier (we never receive your email or name unless you explicitly choose to share them through Apple's prompt).
- Preferences such as units (mph/km/h) and notification settings.
Location & drive data
- Tarmac asks for "Always" location access so it can automatically detect when you start and stop driving using Core Location and Core Motion, even when the app is closed or running in the background.
- While a drive is detected, we record your GPS route, distance, duration, top speed, and — if you enable it — harsh braking/acceleration events.
- Drives marked as "Ghost" are stored the same way but are never shown to your friends or on any leaderboard.
- You can turn off location access at any time in iOS Settings; automatic drive detection simply stops working until you turn it back on.
Vehicle data
- Vehicles you add to your garage: type, make, model, year, nickname, photo, odometer reading, and any maintenance records you log.
Social & leaderboard data
- Friend requests and friendships you create or accept.
- Your weekly and global leaderboard standing, computed from your non-Ghost drives.
- Referral codes you share or redeem.
- Push notification device tokens, used only to deliver alerts you've enabled (friend requests, friend activity, streak reminders).
Subscription data
- Purchase and subscription status, managed by RevenueCat and the App Store. We do not store your payment card details.
Diagnostics & support data
- On-device event logs (drive-detection and purchase activity) that your device uploads automatically in the background, or when you tap "Report a Problem," to help us diagnose issues — for example, why a drive wasn't detected.
- Basic device information: app version, build number, OS version, and device model.
- Crash and error reports, collected automatically via Sentry.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the Tarmac service, including automatic drive detection and route recording.
- To display your stats, streaks, and leaderboard position among your friends.
- To power the friends, referral, and push-notification features you opt into.
- To process and verify your subscription status.
- To diagnose bugs and crashes and improve app stability.
- To detect and prevent abuse or violations of our Terms of Use.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising purposes.
4. Third-Party Services
5. Data Retention & Deletion
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete
your account at any time from Profile → Delete Account. This removes your drives, routes,
vehicles, friendships, and profile data from our servers within 30 days. Diagnostic log
uploads and crash reports may be retained separately for a limited period to help us fix
bugs, and are not linked to your identity beyond an internal account ID.
6. Children's Privacy
Tarmac is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal
information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such
information, please contact us so we can delete it.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data (by deleting your account in-app, or by contacting us).
- Object to or limit certain processing of your data, including revoking location access in iOS Settings.
To exercise these rights, contact us at tarmac@raidrdev.com.
8. Security
We use industry-standard security measures, including encrypted connections (TLS) and
row-level security on our database, so that your drives and profile data are only
accessible to you and, where you've chosen to share them, your accepted friends. No
system is perfectly secure; we encourage you to use a strong Apple ID password.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant
changes via the app or by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the
app after changes constitutes acceptance.
